KHQ Group Quilt: Reach for the Stars
made for "The Quilt; A Breast Cancer Support Project 2002"

50"x60"

This hanging began in 2000 using a design created by Hilary Scanlon. Blue fabric was donated by the group and kits were made to be handed out. Members returned blocks that made up the ribbons along the sides and the stars and moons for the center of the quilt.

Using a photo of Betty Gill's hands (a cancer survivor) as a template, fabric was fused to the bottom curve of the hanging. The hands were then framed using couched yarn. Phases of the lunar cycle were added using netting over fabric.

Margaret Stone embroidered the name of the quilt using metallic thread to complete the top. The hanging was hand quilted by Mary Ann McAndrews with the addition of some bead work.

After being photographed, the wall hanging was then sent to "The Quilt; A Breast Cancer Support Project 2002".

This piece was then catalogued and auctioned for $750 after being hung at Casa Loma in Toronto.
